ADRIAN, Mich. – Chris Ornelas scored a goal and earned two assists in Siena Heights men's soccer 3-1 victory over Point Park (Pa.), on Saturday.
Ornelas opened the scoring for SHU in the seventh minute. He finished a 40 yard shot to the far post.
The Saints put in two more in the first half just under two minutes apart. At the 25:05 mark, Elmedin Celovic finished a through ball from Ornelas. Shortly after, Luis Miguel Anaya netted a slotted pass by Ornelas at 26:55.
Point Park fought back, scoring in the 31st minute. Roberto Whitley scored for the Pioneers off of a Rejep Mukhammedov through ball.
The 3-1 score held throughout the rest of the physical match, drawing 10 Siena Heights fouls and 12 Point Park Fouls. SHU held a slight shot advantage, outshooting the Pioneers 13-12, while PPU held a 7-5 corner kick advantage.
Winning-goalkeeper Leo Hisamatsu stopped three shots in net for the Saints (3-2-1) while PPU keeper made seven saves.
The Saints will be back in action when they travel to Madonna for their conference-opener. Kickoff is set for Saturday, Sept. 24, at 2:30 p.m.
