Men's Soccer Falls in Season Opener to Goshen

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's soccer team fell to Goshen (Ind.), 2-1, in the season home-opener on Tuesday.

The score was tied 0-0 at halftime, Goshen (1-0-1) out-shooting Siena Heights 7-4.

SHU tallied the first goal in the 67th minute when Alessandro De Santis finished a cross from Matt Wilkie.

The Maple Leafs responded in the 72nd minute when Jadon Chupp had a one touch finish off of a Daniel Rosales corner-kick. In the 83rd minute, Goshen's Darius Rawlins shot was saved by the SHU keeper, only to have Ari Benjamin finish the rebound to put the Maple Leafs up for good.

Winning goalkeeper Johan Escalante made nine saves in net for Goshen, eight saves coming in the second half. SHU keeper Leo Hisamatsu stopped seven shots.

Siena Heights was outshot by Goshen, 18-14.

The Saints (0-1) will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 3, when they travel to Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) for a 2 p.m. match.
