Three Saints Net Hat Tricks in #5 Men's Lacrosse WHAC Tournament Semifinal Upset Over #3 Indiana Tech

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Three different Saints managed hat tricks as the fifth-ranked Siena Heights men's lacrosse team took down third-ranked Indiana Tech in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinal, on Wednesday. The No. 3 seed SHU won 12-7 over the No. 2 seed.

The Warriors (12-3) took the early lead as Will McKinney scored first, followed by Noah Puckett with 10:56 on the clock in the first quarter. Two goals from Ryan Mamo and one from Danny Kreitzer gave SHU a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Saints scored twice more in the second quarter while IN Tech also added a pair to go into halftime with a 5-4 SHU advantage.

Siena Heights continued on with their goal surge, adding two in the third and five more in the fourth quarter to seal the deal, allowing only three goals for the Warriors in the second half.

The Saints (11-3) were led by Danny Orr, Kreitzer and Mamo as each added three goals, with Mamo also tallying an assist. Nolan Lyons scored twice while helping SHU with two assists as Garnet Potter managed three assists. Adding a solo goal and solo assist was Alex Gilbert and Derek Martin, respectively.

For the Warriors, Jace Childs scored three times while earning an assist. McKinney netted twice as Brandon Gates and Puckett each added a goal.

Winning goalie Tyler Hooper stopped seven shots for the Saints while Evan Schuster had eightsaves for IN Tech. Faceoff specialist Travis Byrd went 15-23 in the circle and grabbed five groundballs. Tanner Cowell helped the Saints defense with three caused turnovers and four groundballs. Indiana Tech was helped by Joey Provost with seven groundballs and four caused turnovers.

As a team, the Saints were successful in 14-of-17 clears while outshooting the Warriors 30-28.

Next up, Siena Heights will travel to NAIA second-ranked, WHAC No. 1 seed Madonna for the WHAC Tournament Championship, on Saturday. The opening faceoff is set for 12 p.m. in Livonia, Mich.
