LIVONIA, Mich. -- The No. 5 Siena Heights men's lacrosse team fell 11-6 to No. 2 Madonna in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action, on Wednesday.
Danny Orr opened the game scoring as he finished a pass from Derek Martin with 12:52 remaining in the first quarter. The Crusaders responded with two goals of their own. With another goal in the first quarter, Orr netted a Nolan Lyons pass with 00:15 on the clock to tie it, 2-2. Madonna scored the first two goals in the second quarter before SHU tacked one on. The Crusaders and Saints exchanged goals as MU left with a 5-4 halftime lead.
A strong third quarter by the Crusaders (15-0, 4-0 WHAC) put the Saints out of reach, MU outscoring Siena Heights 4-1. The Crusaders expanded their lead in the fourth quarter with two more goals to a solo goal from the Saints, Madonna earning the 11-6 NAIA Top 10 victory.
Siena Heights (8-2, 2-2 WHAC) was led by Orr with two goals and an assist with solo goals coming from Shane Lewandowski, Garnett Potter, Ryan Mamo and Lyons.Travis Byrd had three caused turnovers and two groundballs to help the SHU defense.
Three different Crusaders scored twice while five netted solo shots. With two goals and two assists was Coe Gingell. Zachary Beam won 18-of-21 faceoffs for Madonna while managing 10 groundballs.
In goal, Tyler Hooper stopped 11 shots for SHU while winning goalie Gary Cutler made six saves to earn the won for MU.
Siena Heights will host No. 8 Lawrence Tech in a 7 p.m. WHAC contest, on Saturday.
