#5 Men's Lacrosse Upset by Aquinas in OT

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The fifth-ranked Siena Heights men's lacrosse team was upset 17-16 in a overtime contest to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference foe Aquinas, on Monday.

SHU (6-2, 3-2) came out strong with a 3-1 lead to end the first quarter, but Aquinas came back and tied it 6-6 heading into halftime.

After a tightly contested third quarter the Saints were again tied at 10-10. Siena Heights went up 15-114 before AQ netted two, going up 16-15 with 1:15 remaining in regulation. Chris Acton scored off of a Nicholas Lyons pass to tie it 16-16, ending regulation.

With 42 seconds left in the first overtime, Sam Kinsky finished a Mitch Haggart pass to win it 17-16.

Shane Lewandowski and Lyons led SHU with four goals a piece as Nathan Lipon, Danny Orr and Chris Acton each scored twice. Netting solo shots for the Saints was Parker Richards and Danny Kreitzer.

Leading Aquinas (8-4, 3-3) was Sam Kinsky with seven goals. He was followed by Mitch Haggart with four goals and three assists while Kevin Hieshetter scored two goals. With one goal a piece was Brody Smith, Corby Haley, Tyson Marsh and Samuel Werner.

Starting in goal for AQ was Mack Baker who stopped seven shots in the first half of action. He was relieved by Jacob Mackinder for the second and overtime, stopping two shots. For SHU, Tyler Hooper stopped 11 shots. Siena Heights outshot Aquinas 51-46 and held a 19-22 turnover advantage.

SHU will return to action on Wednesday when the Saints take on Madonna in a 7 p.m. WHAC contedt.
