Joe Pechota enters his 12th season as the Siena Heights men’s basketball coach. Since his arrival at SHU, he has accumulated an overall record of 118-191 and a WHAC mark of 80-141.

The Saints saw their most successful season under Pechota during the 2018-19 season when the team finished 17-13 overall and 12-8 in conference play to earn fourth in the WHAC standings, the highest finish since 2010.

Pechota has coached NAIA All-America Honorable Mentions Keith Jordan Jr. and DeMarco Dickerson. He has also coached seven All-WHAC selections, one WHAC All-Defensive, and seven Academic All-WHAC honorees. 

Pechota came to the Saints after seven seasons as the head coach for Brescia University, an NAIA Division II team in Owensboro, Ky. Under Pechota’s watch, Brescia appeared in two consecutive Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference finals. He coached six Bearcats to NAIA All-America honors and three NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

Prior to coaching at Brescia, Pechota was at Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne where he graduated from assistant to associate head coach to interim head coach during his six seasons at IPFW. He was also an assistant at Ferris State for one season and at Alma for three seasons.

He graduated from Concordia in 1995 with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and earned a Master’s degree in Sports Administration from Central Michigan in 2001.

Pechota has a wife, Angelina, and two daughters, Emma (23) and Claire (8).
