Hovermale Earns Double-Double to Help Men's Basketball to Victory Over Akron-Wayne

ADRIAN, Mich. – Jon Hovermale earned a double-double in the Siena Heights men's basketball victory over non-conference opponent Akron-Wayne (Ohio), on Monday.

The Saints (11-12) opened the game with a 15-4 run and kept the momentum throughout the game. The Saints were up 43-30 at halftime and their lead grew to 96-68 with 56 points in the second half.

Hovermale led Siena Heights with 26 points and 10 boards. Tony Jackson II earned 19 points and six rebounds as Trevor Holston and Kevin Smith II managed 15 and 10 points, respectively. Nick Randle led SHU with six assists and four steals while Smith tallied five assists.

The Warriors (5-19) were led by Dequan Smith who had 18 points and Antoine Watson earned 12 points.

As a team, Siena Heights went 35-72 (48.6%) from the floor, 10-30 (33.3%) behind the arc and 16-19 (84.2%) at the line. Akron Wayne finished 26-70 (37.1%) from the floor, making 0-8 three-pointers and 16-25 (64.0%) from the charity stripe.

Next up, Siena Heights will travel to No. 1 Cornerstone for a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
