Comeback Falls Short as Aquinas Edges Men's Basketball in WHAC Action

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's basketball comeback fell short as Aquinas topped SHU, 69-65, in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest, on Wednesday.

For the first five minutes of action, SHU kept the game close as they earned an 11-9 lead over AQ, but it was short lived as the AQ Saints (9-9, 5-3 WHAC) managed to take hold of the lead and slowly inch away from SHU. The back-and-forth play resulted in AQ leading SHU, 40-32, heading into halftime.

Aquinas kept marching on, earning their largest lead of the night, 58-43, with 11:14 left in the game. Siena Heights clawed their way back into the game as a three-pointer from Keith Jordan put SHU within one point, 64-63, with 1:47 on the clock. SHU was forced to foul and AQ made 4-of-5 free throws to seal the deal for Aquinas, earning the 69-65 victory.

Leading Siena Heights (6-9, 3-6 WHAC) with 22 points was Jordan Jr., also adding four rebounds. Tony Jackson II tallied 19 points while grabbing nine boards, making three blocks and three steals. Aquinas was led by Sholesi Opeyemi with 14 points while Arsenio Arrington added 10 points and five assists.

Overall, SHU shot 23-49 (46.96%) from the floor, 4-12 (33.3%) from behind the arc and 15-19 (78.9%) from the charity stripe. AQ went 26-53 (49.1%) from the floor, managing 7-13 (53.8%) in three-point land and 10-18 (55.6%) from the line.

Siena Heights will return to action on Monday as SHU travels to Wilberforce (Ohio) for a 7 p.m. non-conference contest.
