Madonna Tops Men's Basketball in WHAC Action

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's basketball team fell to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opponent Madonna, 89-78, on Saturday.

The Saints started slow in the first half, battling back from a 14-point MU lead with 4:09 left on the clock. Momentum started to shift as Trevor Holston made two free throws and the Saints made four three-pointers, three from Nick Randle, and two Tony Jackson II jump shots to tie it 43-43 at halftime.

Another slow start plagued Siena Heights, trailing 50-60 with 15:40 remaining in the half. SHU came within six points numerous time, but was unable to lessen the gap as the Crusaders won by 11 points.

Leading the Saints was Jackson, earning a double-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds and adding eight assists. Holston managed 17 points for SHU as Randle also put-in 17 points and earned three assists. Keith Jordan earned 14 points, four boards and three steals for Siena Heights (5-6, 3-5 WHAC).

The Crusaders were led by Chris Dierker, finishing with 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Earning 17 points each was Jonathon Swift and Stephan Umfress, Swift tallying five assists. Also for MU (8-5, 4-3 WHAC), Joshua Reynolds added 11 points.

As a team, the Saints shot 27-56 (48.2%) from the floor, going 6-17 (35.3%) behind the arc and 18-27 (66.7%) from the charity stripe. Madonna went 31-60 (51.7%) overall, managing 9-18 (50.0%) in three-point land and 18-27 (66.7%) from the line.

Next up, Siena Heights will host Roosevelt in a 6 p.m. non-conference contest, on Tuesday.
