Men's Basketball Falls in WHAC Tournament Battle to #2 Cornerstone

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Siena Heights men's basketball team fell 74-70 to second-ranked Cornerstone in the first round of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament.

Heading into halftime, the Saints trailed the Golden Eagles 33-32 after a first half plagued with fouls. Cornerstone jumped out to a 12-point, 57-45, lead with 11:53 remaining on the clock, but the Saints kept fighting.

Siena Heights came within two, 61-59, with 8:07 left and holding on until taking the lead 70-69 with a Christopher Pearl three-pointer, only 1:54 on the clock. The Golden Eagles managed two free throws and a layup to seal the deal over SHU.

Leading the Saints with 15 points was Pearl, also adding nine rebounds. Nick Randle tacked on 12 points for SHU while Tony Jackson II and Josh Winowiecki added 11 points a piece.

For the Golden Eagles (28-3)b bn b    , Kyle Steigenga earned 24 points and seven boards. Michael McLaughlin managed 17 points as Sam Vander Sluis added 11 points.

The Saints end the season 16-15, earning their best record since the 2009-10 season.
