Martin Double-Double Helps Men's Basketball Past Aquinas

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Jerrell Martin scored 13 points and grabbed 13 boards to help the Saints to a 72-71 victory over Aquinas in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action, on Wednesday.

Siena Heights jumped out to a quick lead only to allow Aquinas the halftime lead, 41-34. SHU fought back, closing the gap to one point at 9:22, 59-58, and finally tying the game at the four-minute mark 68-68.

With 2:54 remaining in the game, SHU went up 70-68 with a Martin layup. AQ answered with a three-pointer to go up by one with 2:07 remaining. Siena Heights took the final lead of the night with a Keith Jordan Jr. layup to go up 72-71 with 1:52 on the clock, neither team converting on another opportunity.

Christopher Pearl finished with 19 points for SHU (15-12, 9-10 WHAC). Martin added 13 points and 13 boards while tallying two blocks. Kevin Smith II went 3-of-4 behind the arc, earning a total of 13 points for SHU. Nick Randle tallied six assists and four steals for the Saints.

Aquinas (15-12, 11-8 WHAC) was led by Jake Bullock who earned 27 points, adding three rebounds and three assists. Also scoring in double-digits was Jeremy Williamson and Frank DeVos with 15 and 10 points, respectively.

As a team, Siena Heights shot 50.0% from the floor (26-52) and behind the arc (7-14) while AQ went 47.5% (28-59) from the floor and 33.3% (6-18) in three-point land. SHU outshot Aquinas from the charity stripe 13-18 (72.2%) compared to 9-14 (64.3%).
