Last Second Shot by Jackson Gives Men's Basketball 73-71 Victory Over Wilberforce

ADRIAN, Mich. -- A last second shot by Tony Jackson II gave the Siena Heights men's basketball team a 73-71 non-conference victory over Wilberforce (Ohio), on Monday.

The visiting Bulldogs jumped out to an early seven point lead with 9:45 remaining in the first half. Siena Heights fought back, eventually taking the lead 36-33 heading into halftime.

SHU quickly added to their lead, going up 54-42 with 12:26 remaining in the game. WU kept fighting, cutting the lead to one point with 8:33 remaining. The Saints held the lead until the 3:06 mark when a Bulldog dunk earned the 69-68 lead.

The Saints tied it up with two Jerrell Martin free throws at 1:30, making it 71-71. Nick Randle sent up a three-pointer with seconds left, Jackson grabbed the rebound and sent in the winning layup with 00:00.5 on the game clock. The Bulldogs were unable to get a shot off, giving SHU the 73-71 victory.

Leading the Saints was Martin with a double-double of 24 points and 10 boards. Randle finished with 11 points while Josh Winowiecki and Jackson each earned 10 points. Christopher Pearl grabbed 12 boards for the Saints while adding eight points and four assists.

Scoring in double-digits for the Bulldogs was Patrick Mitchell and Michael Forest with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

As a team, the Saints shot 22-51 (43.1%) from the floor and 6-15 (40.0%) in three-point land. The Bulldogs went 26-58 (44.8%) while going 11-21 (52.4%) behind the arc. At the charity stripe, SHU shot 23-27 (85.2%) and WU went (8-10 (80.0%).

Next up, the Saints will travel to Northwestern Ohio for a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
