Men's Basketball Holds On for an Overtime Victory Over IU-South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Siena Heights men's basketball team held on for an 87-85 overtime victory against non-conference opponent Indiana University - South Bend, on Saturday.

The Saints had a slow start, falling back 17-9 to the Titans with 12:32 remaining in the first half. Siena Heights fought back, taking a six-point lead, 40-34, at halftime.

SHU quickly extended the lead to ten points only to have IU-SB comeback and tie it 66-66 with 7:43 left in the second half. With 00:35 remaining, Jeremy Jones converted two free throws to put the Titans up 75-73. Christopher Pearl tipped-in a Tony Jackson II layup with 00:14 seconds left to tie it 75-75 and send the Saints into overtime.

In a tight finale, the score remained tied with 2:04 remaining. Siena Heights (8-4) made six free throws in the final 1:22 to take the lead that would hold for the victory. Of the Saints' 12 points in overtime, 10 were scored from the free throw line.

Jerrell Martin led the Saints with 26 points, going 11-13 from the floor, and added eight rebounds. Pearl earned 10 points, nine assists, six assists and four steals. Jackson also finished in double-digits with five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

For IU-South Bend (10-4), Avery Harmon earned 36 points and three steals. T.J. Benner, Taylor Brooks and Jeremy Jones all finished in double-digits for the Titans.

From the floor, Siena Heights shot 31-64 (48.4%) while IU-SB went 31-59 (52.5%). And from the charity stripe the Saints finished 21-of-33 as the Titans went 14-of-17.

The Saints will return to action on Wednesday to take on top-ranked Cornerstone in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at the SHU Fieldhouse.
