Men's Basketball Drops Close Contest to Spring Arbor

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's basketball team fell 65-68 to Spring Arbor in non-conference action, on Wednesday.

Leading the Saints was Christopher Pearl with 15 points and six rebounds. Jerrell Martin grabbed 12 boards for the Saints while adding on 13 points and two blocks for SHU. Also putting up double-digits for SHU was Tony Jackson II and Josh Winowiecki, finishing with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Through a close first half, Siena Heights (2-1) led 34-32 heading into halftime. The Saints shot 38.7% while the Cougars shot 41.4%.

The score continually went back-and-forth in the second half, the biggest lead by either team only five points or less. With 2:41 left on the game clock, Josh Winowiecki made a three-pointer to tie it up 64-64.

The Cougars would go on to make a three and a free throw to take a four-point lead with 1:38 remaining in the game. Martin put in a free throw with 1:22 on the clock, but the Saints couldn't capitalize in the final minute of action.

For SAU, Tonny Hamiliton put-up 17 points to lead the Cougars. Thomas Starks and Paul Marandet each scored 10 points for Spring Arbor (3-2).

As a team, the Saints shot 40.7% while going 4-21 (19.0%) behind the arc. The Cougars shot 45.3% as a team and went 7-12 (58.3%) from three-point land.

Next up, Siena Heights will host Concordia for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference season opener. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16.
