Men's Basketball Drops WHAC Opener at LTU

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's basketball team lost to Lawrence Tech, 58-57, in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opener on Wednesday.

George Goodman was SHU's leading scorer with 18 points and eight rebounds. Jerrell Martin had 12 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double while Michael Fomby finished with 12 points.

For Lawrence Tech (1-4, 1-0), Brad Watterworth had a double-double, compiling 12 points and 12 rebounds. Jon Harden added 15 points and Lucas Vojak finished with 12.

The Saints trailed for much of the night before a Goodman basket gave them a 50-49 lead.

SHU had the lead once more at 52-51 before the host Blue Devils scored five straight points -- three on a Harden three-pointer and two on a Vojak bucket.

Goodman pulled the Saints within 56-55 with a trey. After LTU extended its lead to 58-55, Fomby had a two-pointer for the game's final points. SHU had two possessions to retake the lead after that, but came up short.

The Saints (1-2, 0-1) will return to action for their home opener on Saturday when they host Concordia for a 7:30 p.m. WHAC contest.
