Leighton Scores 19 in Men's Hoops Loss at Concordia

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Tyler Leighton scored 19 points and Christian Covile put in 12 as the Siena Heights men's basketball team dropped a 79-57 contest to Concordia in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Saturday.

George Goodman added seven assists for the Saints (8-14, 4-10), who were unable to contain the host Cardinals on a number of runs.

CUAA (12-8, 11-4) took the lead for good with a 10-point run in the first half, taking a 16-7 lead. The Cardinals then held a 37-29 lead at halftime before a pair of second-half streakes helped them pull away.

The Cardinals begain pulling away with a 9-0 streak midway through the second. That stretch left Concordia with a 55-42 advantage. Later, the Cards scored 11 consecutive points to put the contest away for good.

Josh Fugate led CUAA with 21 points while Austin Elam, Ed Shinevarre and Joe Remstad put in 14, 11 and 10, respectively. Andrew Patrick grabbed seven rebounds.

As a team, the Saints struggled from the field, going 21 of 55 (38.2 percent), while the hosts had a strong day themselves. Concordia finished 31 of 48 from the field (64.6 percent).

Siena Heights will return to action on Wednesday with an 8 p.m. WHAC home game against Indiana Tech.
