Men's Basketball Struggles to Stop #22 UNOH's Offense

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Eric Cogan scored 20 points and Jerrell Martin contributed 14 points and eight rebounds, but the Siena Heights men's basketball team's upset bid came up short during a 78-64 loss to 22nd-ranked Northwestern Ohio in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play at the SHU Fieldhouse on Saturday.

George Goodman added seven rebounds and Christian Covile dished six assists for the Saints (8-12, 4-8), who were unable to overcome UNOH's hot start.

While SHU went 8 of 32 during the field in the first half (25.0 percent), the visiting Racers went 15 of 25 (60.0 percent). The Saints managed seven points from the free-throw line and trailed at halftime, 35-26, but were unable to contain the Northwestern Ohio offense.

Balanced scoring highlighted the night for the Racers, who made 11 of their first 14 field-goal attempts.

Lawrence Jackson led the way with 16 points and six rebounds while Josh Scott put in 13 points and Aaron Cross and Ed Jenkins put in 11 each.

The Saints took their only lead -- 9-8 -- on a three-pointer by Tyler Leighton before UNOH went on an 11-2 run. Jackson had five points during that stretch.

UNOH's largest lead was 63-43, which a spirited Saint group cut down to eight points with 1:08 remaining in the game, but that was as close as SHU would get.

The Saints will return to action on Wednesday with an 8 p.m. WHAC tip-off against fifth-ranked Davenport.
