Martin's Double-Double Helps Men's Basketball Outlast Lawrence Tech

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- Jerrell Martin had a double-double, finishing with 16 points and 10 rebounds, as the Siena Heights men's basketball team claimed a 62-55 victory over Lawrence Tech in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Wednesday.

Stone Beckwith and Eric Cogan chipped in with 14 points apiece for the Saints (8-11, 4-7), who opened with the game's first seven points and never trailed.

The host Blue Devils eventually knotted the contest at 17-all before a late barrage from three-point land. Cogan buried a pair of three-pointers before Beckwith hit a trey of his own before the buzzer, helping SHU to a 30-22 lead.

During the second half, Siena Heights pushed its advantage to 53-40 on a dunk by Christian Covile with 4:22 to go. The contest looked well in hand, but the Devils caught fire from beyond the arc themselves.

Robbie Geoghegan and Jake Mullin converted treys before Anthony Sisson buried a pair -- the second of which cut SHU's lead to 55-52 with 1:33 left.

Cogan put in four points and George Goodman scored three points as the Saints held off LTU (3-16, 0-11), which hit five baskets from three-point land during the final 4:03.

Geoghegan was the Devils' top performer, finishing with 19 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. Mullin added 16 points.

The Saints will be in action next on Saturday when they host Northwestern Ohio for a 7:30 p.m. WHAC home tip-off.
