Covile, Martin Doubles Lead Men's Hoops to Program's 800th Victory

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Christian Covile and Jerrell Martin recorded double-doubles as the Siena Heights men's basketball team claimed its program's 800th all-time win with an 88-84 non-conference victory against Indiana-South Bend on Tuesday at the SHU Fieldhouse.

Covile finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds while Martin compiled 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Saints (6-4), who scored the game's first nine points.

George Goodman added 16 points and four assists, Stone Beckwith scored 13 points and Tyler Leighton contributed 10 points and six rebounds. Also, Lavario Smith grabbed eight boards for the Saints.

Siena Heights had its way with IUSB in the first half, taking a 43-30 halftime lead, before the visiting Titans tied the contest at 76-all with 2:14 left in the contest. From there, the Saints scored six consecutive points, taking the lead on a Smith free throw before extending the lead on a Covile 3-point play and two Goodman free throws.

The Saints then went 6 of 6 from the charity stripe to hold off IUSB.

In the first half, SHU took a 20-5 lead, getting eight points from Martin in the process. The Saints were 19 of 37 from the field (51.4 percent) while the Titans went 8 of 29 in the first half (27.6 percent).

Siena Heights outrebounded IUSB, 55-37, in a contest that featured 61 personal fouls and 75 free throw attempts.

T.J. Benner led the Titans with 20 points while Jacob Foster scored 18, Oosha Mitchell had 15 and Javonte Young put in 10. Taylor Brooks and Mark White grabbed seven rebounds apiece.

The Saints will return to action on Wednesday with a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference game at Davenport.
