Men's Hoops Overcomes Slow Start at Indiana Tech

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Christian Covile finished with 27 points and five rebounds as the Siena Heights men's basketball team claimed a 77-64 victory over Indiana Tech in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference competition on Wednesday.

George Goodman added 14 points and four steals while Eric Cogan contributed 13 points for the Saints, who twice trailed by 11.

Siena Heights was down, 41-30, with 16:05 left in the second half. From that point, the visiting Saints outscored Indiana Tech, 47-23. That stretch started with a 14-point run in which Covile scored eight points and Goodman put in six.

Siena Heights eventually pushed its advantage to 54-45 on a layup by Malachi Satterlee with 8:49 left.

Indiana Tech (2-4, 1-1) pulled within six points on four occasions, but a 13-3 stretch helped the Saints cruise to victory.

The Siena Heights offense struggled in the first half, eventually falling behind 13-2. It went 6 of 25 from the field (24.0 percent), before erupting in the second. During the final 20 minutes, the Saints were 17 of 29 (58.6 percent).

The Warriors won the rebound battle, 40-29. SHU finished 28 of 34 from the free throw line (82.4 percent).

Host Indiana Tech was led by Franklin Lindsey's double-double worth 18 points and 13 rebounds. Chester McFadden was the leading scorer with 24 points off the bench.

Siena Heights (4-3, 2-0) will return to action on Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. WHAC home contest against Michigan-Dearborn.
