First-Half Struggles Dooms Men's Hoops at Roosevelt

CHICAGO, Ill. -- Christian Covile compiled a double-double, finishing with 17 points and 11 rebounds, but the Siena Heights men's basketball team dropped a 77-68 decision to Roosevelt (Ill.) in non-conference action on Monday.

Jerrell Martin added 12 points while Eric Cogan and George Goodman dished four assists each for the Saints (3-3).

The host Lakers (3-1) outshined SHU in the first half and then spent the second half holding off visiting Siena Heights. After trailing by as many as 18, SHU closed its deficit to seven points on six different occasions, but could not pull any closer.

With a 20-3 run, Roosevelt turned a 14-13 deficit into a 33-17 lead. In the opening half, Roosevelt was 15 of 27 from the field (55.6 percent), including 5 of 12 from 3-point land, while going 7 of 8 from the free-throw line. During the same period, SHU was 11 of 31 from the field (35.5 percent), including 1 of 10 from beyond the arc.

Tyree York had 19 points and nine assists for RU while Joe Harks contributed 18 points. Also,k Korey Ryan and Jeremiah Jackson contributed 13 and 10 points, respectively. Joshua Dillingham made seven assists.

The Saints will return to action on Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup at Indiana Tech.
