14 Saint Football Players Given MSFA MEL Honors

FINDLAY, Ohio -- The Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) announced the league awards for both the Mid-East and Mid-West Leagues on Thursday. Malik Edwards (Port Huron, Mich.) and Trevon Claybourne (Redford, Mich.) were selected to the First Team All-MSFA while nine of their teammates made the second team and three others were honorable mentions.

Edwards finished the season as the team's leading pass rusher with 8.5 sacks. He also led the team in tackles for loss with 10.5 and was sixth on the team in tackles with 33 total.

Claybourne finished just behind Edwards in tackling with 32 total. He also forced one fumble and registered a team-high four interceptions and eight pass breakups.

Senior running back D'aries Davis (Wyandotte, Mich.) was chosen to the second team All-MSFA MEL. He achieved his second-straight 1000 yard rushing season with 1093 yards on 212 carries. He scored two touchdowns on the year. Davis finishes as the career leader in rushing yards with 2729 yards during his four years at Siena Heights.

Also on the second team was senior wide receiver Damon Wright Jr. (Detroit, Mich.). Wright led the Saints with 37 receptions for 356 yards and three touchdowns.

Fourth-year junior Will Walker was named to the second team as a tight end. He hauled in 11 catches for 128 yards on the season.

Senior left guard Ryan Carlson and fourth-year junior Stanley E. Fink (center) were each chosen as members of the second team offensive line.

Seniors Izayah Newsom (South Bend, Ind.) and DeVonte Collins-Anderson (Columbus, Ohio) were each chosen to the second team defensive line. Newsom 37 tackles which were the fifth-most on the team. He also registered two sacks and the second-most tackles for loss with eight. Collins-Anderson had 29 tackles, two for loss, and a sack on the season.

The final two members of the All-MSFA MEL Second Team were linebackers Griffin C. Sobol (Morris, Ill.) and Nick Stalworth (Clarkston, Mich.). Sobol was second on the team in tackles with 65. He also had the second-most interceptions with three and tallied 1.5 sacks and five tackles for loss. Stalworth was the team's leading tackler with 71. He picked off one pass with was returned for a 45-yard touchdown while also compiling 4.5 tackles for loss.

Seniors Adam Glanders (WR, Elkhart, Ind.) and E.J. Shaah (LB, Ypsilanti, Mich.) joined redshirt-freshman Jax Gasaway (RT, Livonia, Mich.) as the three SHU honorable mentions.

Siena Heights made program history this year with its first seven-win season. The team started the season with back-to-back road games for the first time ever on its way to a 5-0 start, another first for the program.
