2017 Football Season Recap

The Siena Heights football team finished their season 5-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play.  The team finished with an AFCA-NAIA First Team All-American, a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree, a Mid-States Football Association Mideast League Defensive Player of the Year, two MSFA Mideast First Team honorees, six MSFA Mideast Second Team honorees and three earned MSFA Mideast Honorable Mention.

Offensively the team averaged 180.1 passing yards per game and 137.4 rushing yards per game for a total of 317.5 yards per game.  The team had 16 passing touchdowns and 14 rushing touchdowns. Defensively SHU racked up 745 tackles, 19 sacks, recovered nine fumbles and seven interceptions. Special teams finished with an average of 15.4 kick return yards and 3.9 punt return yards. The Saints also made seven field goals, 28 PATs and averaged 38.8 yards per punt.

Darius Price finished his final season strong, as he earned numerous awards. Price was named the 2017 AFCA-NAIA First Team All-American, the MSFA MEL Defensive Player of the Year, MSFA MEL First Team All-Defense along with a couple team awards.

Malik Edwards earned MSFA MEL First Team All-Defense.

The six athletes who earned Second Team honors include: junior Damon Wright Jr., junior D'aries Davis, junior Colton Pfaendtner, junior Brady Tanguay and freshman Nick Stalworth.

Earning honorable mention titles are sophomore Logan Smith, junior DeVonte Collins-Anderson and redshirt-senior D.J. Haskins.

Zachary Flack was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team as a starting safety with a 3.43 GPA.

Jim Lyall Champions of the Year Awards: Braelen Bader, R-Jr. and Ronnie Giles Jr., R-Jr.

 

Offensive Back MVP: D'aries Davis, R-Jr.

Offensive Line MVP: D.J. Haskins, R-Sr.

Wide Receiver MVP: Damon Wright Jr., R-Jr.

Defensive Back MVP: Darius Price, Sr.

Defensive Line MVP: DeVonte Collins-Anderson, R-Jr.

Linebacker MVPs: Nick Stalworth, Fr. and E.J. Shaah, R-Jr.
