Bragg Leads Defensive Effort in Football's 'WHAC Bowl' Win over Concordia

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Linebacker Trent Bragg had 13 tackles, including a school-record number of seven tackles-for-loss, and the Siena Heights defense recorded two interception-return touchdowns in a 33-3 win over Concordia in Mid-States Football Association Mideast League action on Saturday at O'Laughlin Stadium.

Linebacker Nic Acton and defensive lineman Jordan Martin had the defensive touchdowns for SHU (3-3, 2-1) on interception returns of 19 and 15 yards, respectively.

Defensive back Darius Price also recorded an interception as SHU matched its single-game record of three picks.

Defensive lineman C.J. Marious added two sacks and linebacker Tyler Karcher finished with five total tackles, including a half-sack, and a fumble recovery. Martin also had a half-sack while Bragg contributed two sacks.

The Saints took a 14-0 lead on their two interception touchdowns before pushing across an offensive touchdown on Ja'Tice K. Shaw II's 4-yard run in the second quarter.

Quarterback Travis Zajkowski passed for SHU's final two touchdowns on a pair of 19-yard, third-quarter hookups to wide receivers Aaron Doriot and Reggie Blackmon. The hosts took a 33-0 lead into halftime.

Zajkowski completed 18 of 26 passes for 191 yards, one interception and the two touchdowns. Blackmon had seven receptions for 83 yards while running back Julius Taylor Jr. rushed 10 times for 62 yards.

For Concordia (2-5, 0-3), linebacker Takari Johnson and defensive lineman Gabe Cox recorded 10 total tackles and one forced fumble each. Johnson and defensive lineman Mario Honojosa had sacks.

Also for the Cardinal defense, lineman Kyle Campbell recovered two fumbles, defensive back DeMarcus Bunn had one fumble recovery and defensive back Ra-Heem Hill made an interception. CUAA blocked two kicks.

On offense, CUAA rushed 28 times for five yards. Its three quarterbacks -- Beau Perry, Tyler Steele and Seth Suida -- combined to go 16 of 38 for 105 yards and three interceptions.

The Cardinals' only three points were scored in the fourth quarter on a 43-yard field goal by kicker Brayden Bennett.

Siena Heights will play again at home on Oct. 25 when it hosts Taylor (Ind.) in an MSFA Mideast contest. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
