Baseball Unable To Hold Off Late Concordia Rally

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team was unable to hold off a red-hot Concordia squad as the Saints dropped a 9-6 WHAC contest on Tuesday at the SHU Baseball Diamond. The contest was a designated home game for the Cardinals.

Adam Wilding batted 2-for-4 with a double and also worked 6 2/3 innings on the mound for the Saints (4-16, 1-7). Cole VanWasshenova added a two-hit game.

Wilding gave up four runs on 12 hits while finishing with 10 strikeouts and two walks. He was in line for the win before CUAA earned a comeback win.

The Saints took a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning, starting with an RBI double by Parker Mabe. Collin Bammer added an RBI single in the inning and Matt Love tacked on a two-run single.

The Cardinals (23-1, 8-0) chipped away after that, getting single runs in the fourth and fifth frames.

An RBI single by Cole Mason helped SHU stretch its lead to 6-2 in the sixth, but that run served as the Saints' final tally.

Concordia plated two runs in the seventh, pulling within 5-4, and then took the lead for good with a five-run eighth. Drew Fleming had the go-ahead hit for CUAA with a two-run single.

Siena Heights will return to play on Wednesday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at WHAC opponent Lourdes (Ohio).
