Baseball Finishes Season With Double-Header Against Indiana Tech

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team concluded the 2017-18 season on Sunday as they faced off against Indiana Tech in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest to wrap up the three game series, and then played them immediately after in a seven inning, non-conference game. The Saints dropped both contests by scores of 8-2 and 10-4.

In the first game, the Saints started slowly and were not able to get it rolling. Indiana Tech had a strong third inning and was able to open the score to 5-0 and never looked back. SHU was not able to score it's first run until the eighth inning were they crossed the plate twice. 

Siena Heights was led by Brenden Baker, batting 2-for-3 and finishing with one of the two Saints runs -- Jack Slavin scored the other. The two Siena Heights RBI's were recorded by Kevin Ketvirtis and Carson Wlad

On the mound, Taylor Acquista started for SHU, went six innings and suffered the loss. Acquista finished with a team best, two strikeouts in the game. Wyatt West came in for relief and pitched the final three innings.

Game two started slow, with neither team scoring until the Warriors knocked in three in the fourth inning. They scored another in the sixth to give them a 4-0 advantage but the Saints were not finished. In the bottom of the seventh, Siena Heights recorded all four of their hits and scored four runs to tie the game and send it to an extra inning. Unfortunately, in the eighth, Indiana Tech got hot, rattling off seven hits and scoring six runs to pull away. The Saints' did not have enough to pull off the complete comeback and fell to the Warriors. 

Brendan Green led Siena Heights at the plate, batting 2-for-4 and scoring one run. Carson Wlad, Freddy Jehle and Deric Cain scored the other three SHU runs. Riley Guntrip finished with a team high two RBI's as he hit a two RBI double, in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game. 

Starting at pitcher was Marcus Beeson for Siena Heights. Beeson went 3.1 innings and struck out three. In for relief was Nic Olson pitching 2.2 innings, Jayson Cleghorn pitching 1.1 innings and Michael Jones closing out the contest and pitching 0.2 innings. 

After this weekend, the Saints have concluded the 2017-18 season.
