Baseball Splits WHAC Double-Header With Concordia

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team traveled to Concordia for a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference double-header on Saturday. The Saints dropped game one before grabbing the game two victory in ten innings. 

GAME ONE: SHU 6, CUAA 8
After three, the Saints were on top, 4-2 but the Cardinals were able to tie up the ball game in the fifth and then take the two run advantage in the sixth. CUAA tacked on another two in the eighth for insurance. SHU scored two in the ninth but it was not enough to make a come back. 

Brendan Green led the Saints at the plate, finishing 4-for-5 while scoring one run and knocking in a team high three RBI's. Kevin Ketvirtis helped the Saints by scoring a team best, two runs in the contest. Reid Olmstead suffered the loss on the mound, pitching the full game. 

GAME TWO: SHU 6, CUAA 5 - 10 Innings
The lead went back and forth as the Saints scored first in the first inning but the Cardinals quickly gained control in the bottom of the inning. SHU scored two in the fifth and took back the lead in the fifth, but CUAA was not finished. Concordia scored three runs in the eighth and that would be the last time they led. Siena Heights tied it up in the ninth to send it to extra innings.

In the top of the tenth, Deric Cain hit an RBI single, to score Jacob Jones and give the Saints the game winning run. SHU was able to hold CUAA in the bottom of the inning and walk away with the conference victory and split the double-header. 

Brenden Baker finished 2-for-3 in the contest while scoring a team best two runs and batting in another team high, two RBI's. Taylor Acquista got the start on the mound and pitched seven innings. Acquista allowed one earned run and struck out four. Michael Jones earned the win on the mound, pitching three innings for the Saints.

The Saints will take on Concordia on Sunday, April 22 in the final game of the series. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
