Baseball Picks Up Series Opener Over Aquinas

WYOMING, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team claimed a 6-1 victory over Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opponent Aquinas n a solo contest, on Thursday.

SHU (13-19, 6-7 WHAC) quickly got on the board as Ryler Overacker hit a line drive through left field to score Brendan Green in the first inning. In the second, Grenn hit a double that would score two runner to give SHU a 3-0 advantage.

Aquinas (12-17, 4-9 WHAC) scored their lone run of the day in the second inning, after a series of singles. he game was quiet until the Saints tallied on three insurance runs in the eight inning to keep the final score at 6-1.

Brenden Baker and Logan Nolff went 3-for-5 in the batter's box, Baker earning two RBIs and a run. Thomas Lindeman and Carson Wlad both managed two hits for SHU. Ben Sweedyk and Jacob Holt each earned two hits for AQ.

On the mound, Reid Olmstead earned a season-high eight strikeouts in nine innings of action while allowing only one run and eight hits as he earned the win. Max Ludka took the loss on the mound for the AQ Saints, managing four strikeouts with 10 hits and three runs in seven innings. Three different pitcher took the mound following Ludka.

Siena Heights will continue the series against Aquinas on Saturday in a WHAC double-header, beginning at 1 p.m.
