Baseball Concludes Warner Tournament With Loss to Thomas

LAKE WALES, Fla. -- The Siena Heights baseball team took on Thomas (Ga.) in the final game of the Warner University Tournament. The Saints entered the contest at the sixth seed and the Night Hawks were the seventh. Thomas defeated Siena Heights 7-2.

Neither team scored until the fourth inning where Thomas rounded the bases three times. They scored another four in the seventh which gave the Saints a steep mountain to climb in the final half inning. Siena Heights (7-17 overall) was able to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh but it was not enough to pose a comeback.

Thomas finished with 12 hits to the Saints' four. Freddy Jehle, Thomas Lindeman, Riley Overacker and Riley Guntrip recorded the four hits for SHU. Jehle and Lindeman each finished with one RBI. Taylor Acquista got the start at pitcher and went six innings, striking out five and suffering the loss. Jayson Cleghorn came in for relief and pitched 0.1 innings and Robert Oliver III finished the final 0.2 innings for the Saints.

Wyatt Petrey finished 3-for-4 at the plate for the Night Hawks (14-14 overall), scored two runs and one RBI. Keyton Smith started on the mound went 4.1 innings and earned the win. 

Next up, the Saints will return home and host Spring Arbor on Wednesday, Mar. 14. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
