Baseball Drops Two to Thomas to Begin Spring Break Trip

THOMASVILLE, Ga. -- The Siena Heights baseball team began their spring break trip with a double-header at Thomas University. The Saints dropped both seven inning games -- 2-1 and 13-12.

Game one - Siena Heights 1, Thomas 2
The Saints opened scoring with one run in the third. Finally the Night Hawks scored two of their own in the sixth, but SHU was not able to answer back and dropped the contest. 

Carson Wlad led the Saints at the plate, batting 2-for-3. Thomas Lindeman recorded the RBI while Jack Slavin scored the lone run for Siena Heights. Reid Olmstead started on the mound in game one and pitched innings, allowing three hits and striking out one. Taylor Acquista suffered the loss, pitching one inning and giving up two runs. 

For the Night Hawks, Justin Young went 2-for-3 at the plate and finished with one RBI. Jalbert Melo batthed 1-for-3 in the game and scored one run and recorded one RBI. Brandon Geiger earned the win on the mound, pitching six innings.

Game two - Siena Heights 12, Thomas 13
Both teams offense picked up in the second game, with 30 total hits in the contest -- SHU with 13 and Thomas with 17. After four innings, the Saints led the ball game, 9-5 but the Night Hawks got hot in the fifth inning and scored eight runs to take the 13-10 lead. Siena Heights scored two more in the seventh but it was not enough. 

Brenden Baker batted 3-for-4 in the second game, scored two runs and recorded three RBI's. Connor McCoy and Freddy Jehle each crossed home, three times for the Saints. Tristan Roth got the start on the mound and pitched three innings. Robert Oliver III came in for relief and went 1.1 innings before being replaced by Jayson Cleghorn who pitched 0.2 innings and suffered the loss. Michael Jones closed out the game pitching the final inning.

Justin Young went 3-for-4 at the plate for Thomas, scored two runs and earned three RBI's. Chase Hinson was perfect at the plate batting 3-for-3 and scored two runs and one RBI. Logan Hollyman started at pitcher for Thomas and went three innings. Ryan Pierce earned the win and pitched 2.1 innings before Patrick Haley pitched the final 1.2 innings.

The Siena Heights baseball team will take on Thomas again on Sunday, Mar. 4 in the final game of the series. The Saints and Night Hawks will play one game at noon.
