Baseball Falls to Defiance in Non-Conference Match-Up

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team hosted Defiance in non-conference action on Wednesday and dropped the contest 3-2.

Defiance scored the first three runs of the ball game, bringing home two in the second and one in the third. Siena Heights knocked in one in the fourth and did not score again until they crossed the plate once in the ninth. The Saints did not have enough to complete the comeback and fell to the Yellow Jackets. 

Brenden Baker led SHU at the plate, batting 3-for-4 in the game. Freddy Jehle and Connor McCoy scored the two runs for Siena Heights while Brendan Green and Riley Guntrip recorded the two RBI's.

Suffering the loss at pitcher was Wyatt West, pitching three innings. West gave up four hits and struck out three. Michael Jones, Jayson Cleghorn and Taylor Acquista all came in for relief and each pitched two innings. 

For the Yellow Jackets, Nate Kaffenbarger led the way batting 2-for-3 and scored one of the Defiance runs. Paris Creek got the start for DC and pitched four innings before being relieved by Jon Brown. Brown was awarded the win. Troy Konwinski pitched in the ninth inning and recorded the save. 

Next up, the Saints will hit the road for Spring Break. First on the trip, SHU will face off against Thomas (Ga.) on Saturday, Mar. 3 with a game time set for 6 p.m.
