Baseball Drops Two to Madonna in WHAC Opening Double-Header

LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team traveled to Madonna for a double-header, to open Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Saturday. The Saints dropped both contests by a score of 11-1 in game one and 12-2 in game two. 

In game one, the Crusaders started off hot scoring three runs in the first inning and one in the second. In the fourth, they tacked on another seven runs which was too much for the Saints to handle. The game ended in the seventh inning with a score of 11-1.

Kevin Ketvirtis led the way for SHU going 1-for-3 at the plate and scoring the only run for Siena Heights. Josh Tirey went 1-for-2 batting, and knocked in the lone RBI. Reid Olmstead suffered the loss on the mound for the Saints, pitching 3.2 innings. In for relief was Cameron Best pitching 1.1 innings and Jayson Cleghorn pitching 1.0.

In game two, Madonna opened scoring again in the first inning scoring one run. The Saints scored two in the third, but the Crusaders responded with four more and extended the lead from there. The game ended in the eighth inning with a score of 12-2. 

At the plate, Jack Slavin went 2-for-4, while scoring one run and knocked in one RBI for Siena Heights. Starting at pitcher for the Saints was Wyatt West who went 3.0 innings before relief from Erich Klingelhofer pitching 2.0 innings, Jason Murphy and Chris McKiddie each pitching one inning and Trevor Willis pitching 0.1.

Next up, the Saints will continue it's series with Madonna on Sunday, Sept. 24, beginning at 1 p.m.
