Baseball Splits Double-Header With Roosevelt in Non-Conference Action

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team hosted Roosevelt (Ill.) in a non-conference double-header on Saturday. The Saints dropped game one of the day 7-2, before grabbing it's first win of the season in game two by a score of 3-2.

In game one, Roosevelt opened scoring by hitting a three run home run in the first inning before the Saints drove in one run. The Lakers crossed the plate once in the second and third, and twice in the fourth, to Siena Heights' one in the third to give the game a final score of 7-2.

Brenden Baker led SHU at the plate going 2-for-3 and recording one RBI. Freddy Jehle and Josh Tirey scored the two Saints' runs. Carson Wlad also completed the ball game with one RBI.

Tristan Roth started the game on the mound, going three innings, while allowing seven hits and recording three stike outs. In for relief was Jayson Cleghorn and Jason Murphy, respectively, both pitching two innings.

In the second game, Siena Heights scored the first three runs of the ball game in the third inning, and was able to hold the Lakers, allowing two runs in the fifth.

Leading the Saints was Brendan Green, going 2-for-3 at the plate, scoring one run and knocking in two RBI's. Scoring the other two Saints' runs were Deric Cain and Nate Fryz.

On the mound to start game two was Wyatt West, pitching four innings, allowing four hits and striking out two. Relief pitchers were Cameron Best, pitching 1.1 innings and Chris McKiddie pitching 1.2.

Next up, Siena Heights will open Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play at Madonna on Sept. 23. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
