ADRIAN, Mich. – Siena Heights baseball fell twice to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opponent Concordia, on Saturday. SHU fell in a close game one 6-4 and dropped game two 8-0.

To open the first game, Siena Heights' John Watts hit a single through center field to send home Deric Cain, who took first from a walk and advanced to third on two passed balls. CUAA responded with a run in both the second and third innings to take the lead 2-1.

SHU's Brendan Green answered with a double through right center to score Freddy Jehle and Cain, leading 3-2 to start the fourth inning. After a quiet fourth inning, the Cardinals added two run to take a short-lived 4-3 lead before SHU tied it up 4-4 with a Green sacrifice fly that sent Jehle home.

In the top of the seventh, Concordia took advantage of four walks and took the one-run lead, 5-4. Siena Heights loaded the bases with one out but were unable to capitalize. The Cardinals added an insurance run in the top of the ninth to take the 6-4 victory.

Starting on the mound for SHU was Kyle Kuhr, earning four strikeouts, allowing nine hits and four runs to suffer the loss. After 6.2 innings, he was relieved by Tristan Roth. Roth closed out the game for the Saints with four strikeouts and only one hit. Earning the win on the hill for CUAA was Jimmy McCane who came in to pitch in the sixth inning. Closing for the Cardinals was Austin Atwood, taking a save for 1.1 innings of action.

The Cardinals (36-9, 19-6 WHAC) came out swinging in game two with four base hits to send two runners home in the first inning. CUAA gradually extended their lead throughout the game, added three runs in both the third and fifth innings but SHU kept them quiet for the remainder of the game.

Chris McKiddie took to the mound first for the Saints, suffering the loss. He threw four full innings, including three strikeouts and ten hits, before being relieved by Robert Oliver III in the fifth. Oliver struck out three batters and allowed five hits. Marshall Oetting opened for CUAA and threw for eight innings to earn the win with eight strikeouts while allowing six hits. Brandon Waack closed for the Cardinals.

The Saints (14-29, 12-14 WHAC) will return to action on Sunday to wrap-up the three game series against Concordia in a 1 p.m. WHAC contest.
