Baseball Drops a Solo Game to Cornerstone

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team dropped a 4-2 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest to Cornerstone, on Thursday.

The Golden Eagles (18-23, 10-11 WHAC) started the scoring in the opening inning with three runs before the Saints could manage the third out. SHU picked up two runs in the top of the fifth inning with Ty Schafer and Nate Fryz earning RBIs.

Cornerstone added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth to end the scoring for the night and take the 4-2 victory.

Suffering the loss on the mound for the Saints (13-23, 12-10 WHAC) was Reid Olmstead, throwing five innings and struck out five. Erich Klingelhofer relieved Olmstead in the sixth inning, earning one strikeout and allowing two hits. On the hill and earning the win for CU was Kyle Herrick who had nine strikeouts. Closing for Cornerstone was Noah Reed, earning the save.

The Golden Eagles outhit the Saints 8-4. However, SHU had no errors while CU gave up four.

Siena Heights will return to action on Saturday in a WHAC double-header at Cornerstone. Opening pitch is set for 1 p.m.
