Baseball Splits With Conference Foe Lourdes

SYLVANIA, Ohio -- The Siena Heights baseball team split with Lourdes in conference play on Saturday. SHU won the first game 8-5 and dropped the second game 9-16.

In game one Lourdes jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead. The Saints came alive in the top of the 5th when they scored five runs on six hits. Bradley Connochie hit in Ty Schafer. Freddy Jehle and Brenden Baker hit RBI singles while Brenden Green added an RBI double. Lourdes continued to chip away at the Saints lead until  the top of the 7th when the Saints hot bats struck again. Deric Cain came up big off the bench singled and tacked on 2 RBIs while Ryley Overacker singled and added an RBI respectfuly. Kevin Ketvirtis also doubled for the Saints.

Kyle Kuhr earned the win on the mound throwing 6 innings while sitting down 5 batters and giving up eight hits. Ben Finn earned the save throwing one inning and fanning three batters.

A slew of Gray Wolves tried to quiet the Saints bats. Rogge suffered the loss throwing 4.2 innings while giving up five hits and five runs, while his team chalked up five errors. Schraffenber faced similar circumstances in his 1.2 innings, giving up three runs on three hits and three errors. Bill Laranga threw two solid innings for the Gray Wolves, giving up one hit and putting three Saints in the books.

In game two it was Lourdes who prevailed 16-9. Both teams were quiet until the third when the Saints took a 4-1 lead. Jehle started the run when he singled to center and scored on Overackers single. Cain reached on a fielders choice scoring Baker. Jake Jones reached on a Gray Wolves' error that scored Green. Schafer singled and scored Cain.

Lourdes scored two in the fourth to bring the game back to within 1. The Saints went up again in the fifth scoring three and one in the sixth. Lourdes had enough when they struck back scoring 12 in the seventh.

Carson Wlad, Overacker and Jones doubled on the day. Overacker also plated two Saints.

Six Saints saw time on the mound Reid Olmstead started on the mound lasting 3.2 innings giving up 3 runs on six hits while fanning three. Robert Oliver suffering the loss for the Saints. Nic Olson, Erich Klingelhofer, Cameron Best and Landon Lumbrezer also saw time on the mound.

For Lourdes Gottschalk started and lasted four innings while giving up four runs on seven hits and three strikeoutes. Bloom and Laranga also faced off on the mound while Tucker earned the win throwing one inning and giving up one run on one hit.

Next up, Siena Heights will return to Lourdes for a single nine inning game starting at 1 p.m.
