Davenport Takes Two From Baseball in WHAC Action

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team dropped two games to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference foe Davenport with scores of 11-1 and 8-3, on Friday.

In game one, the Panthers opened the scoring with back-to-back home runs to opened the second inning, earning a 7-0 lead at the end of the inning. DU pushed four runs across the plate in the top of the fifth.

SHU (9-14, 9-5 WHAC) responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the sixth as Freddy Jehle was walked to first, stole second, advanced to third on a strikeout and made it home on a passed ball. The Panthers held out, winning 11-1 in seven innings.

Taylor Acquista opened on the mound for the Saints, allowing nine hits and seven runs with one strike out in 2.1 innings of action, also suffering the loss. He was relieved by Chris McKiddie in the third inning who struck out one, allowed four runs and three hits.

For the Panthers, Grant Wolfram earned the win, throwing all seven innings. He struck out six and allowed two hits, along with an unearned run.

Davenport (19-10, 11-3 WHAC) opened the scoring in the first inning, pushing one run across the plate. In the fourth inning, DU added another to make it 2-0. The Panthers added three more in the fifth and two in the sixth, leading 7-0.

In the bottom of the seventh, Carson Wlad sent a shot over the center fielders head and went to third, scoring two runs in the process. John Watts then sent home Wlad with a single to right field. DU added the last run of the night in the top of the ninth.

Starting on the hill for SHU was Kyle Kuhr, taking the loss with four strikeouts, 10 hits and seven runs against, six earned. Cameron Best relieved him in the sixth inning, allowing only one hit in 3.1 innings of action. To close out the game Tristan Roth took the mound and allowed a hit.

Earning the win for the Panthers was Krystien Johnson-Batillana. He struck out five batters, had three hits against and two runs. Caleb Leach was a reliever for the Panthers, allowing five hits and one run, striking out six batters. Closing out the game for Davenport was Jonathon Cheshire, throwing the last out of the game.

Siena Heights will return to action against Davenport to end the series on Saturday in a 1 p.m. WHAC contest at home.
