ADRIAN, Mich. -- Emmanuel Gimenez hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning to send the Siena Heights baseball team to a 3-2 victory over Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference foe Rochester, on Sunday. The Saints went 2-1 in the three game series, splitting the double-header against RC on Saturday.
Through the first eight innings of action, Reid Olmstead was on the mound for the Saints. He allowed five hits and only one run while striking out five batters.
For the Warriors, Mike Berlin threw nine complete innings and struck out eight Saints while allowing five hits and one run.
Siena Heights scored in the fourth inning after Brenden Green hit a triple to left field and was sent home by Gimenez, who reached first on an error.
In the top of the sixth, RC evened the score at 1-1, which would hold through nine innings.
SHU pitcher Ben Finn threw the ninth inning and did not allow any hits. Cameron Best entered the game at the top of the 10th for SHU and was quickly relieved by Erich Klingelhofer after two batters. Klingelhofer earned the win on the mound for the Saints.
The Warriors (3-6, 3-6) pushed a run across to take the lead, 2-1, heading into the bottom of the 10th.
Cameron Campana started the 10th inning for Rochester and was relieved by Troy Chinn. Campana took the loss on the mound for RC.
To start off the SHU rally in the 10th, Kevin Ketvertis sent one down the left field line and advanced to second on a James Boice sacrifice bunt. Singles from Green and John Watts had the bases loaded with one out.
J.R. Dawley was sent in to pinch hit for the Saints. He was hit by the pitch, sending Ketvertis home to tie the game.
With one out, Gimenez sent Green home for the second time of the day, this time as the game-winning run.
Green lead SHU with two runs and went 2-for-4. Matthew Bondy also went 2-for-4 for the Saints.
Siena Heights (6-3, 6-3) has finished its fall portion of the season and will be back in action in the spring of 2017. They will start play in Florida on their annual spring break trip.
