Finn Efforts Help Baseball to Victory Over #22 Madonna

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Ben Finn struck out the final three batters in the 6-4 Siena Heights baseball victory over 22nd-ranked Madonna, on Sunday. The Saints took the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference series 2-1, splitting the games on Saturday.

Reid Olmstead opened on the mound for SHU, throwing through the first five innings and earning the win.

Madonna opened the scoring in the top of the second inning. The Saints responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the second and third.

The Saints strung four hits together in the bottom of the third to go up 5-1 against the Crusaders.

In the top of the fifth, MU answered with a Grzelakowski single, sending two Crusaders across the plate.

Siena Heights added a run in the sixth inning while the Crusaders pushed one across the plate in the seventh.

The Crusaders threatened in the eighth inning, getting one runner on with Tristan Roth on the mound. SHU relief pitcher Finn came in with one out. He allowed runers on first and third, the tying-run on first. The Saints were able to come out of the inning allowing no MU runs in.

SHU loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the eighth, but was unable to send any runners home.

The final inning had a quick end when Finn went three-up, three-down, striking all three Crusaders to end the game and earn the save.

Ryley Overacker led the Saints, going 3-for-4 and adding on two runs. Also tacking on two runs for SHU was John Watts, who went 2-for-4 on the day. Freddy Jehle and Carson Wlad each scored a run for SHU.

Taylor Turner earned the loss on the mound for the Crusaders, allowing seven hits and five runs.

Siena Heights will be back in action when they travel to Lawrence Tech on Saturday and Sunday for another three-game WHAC series. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
