Baseball Ends Season With Split at Cornerstone

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team finished its season with a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference split with Cornerstone on Friday. The Saints won game one in 11 innings, 9-7, before falling in game two, 4-3.

A pair of hit batsmen helped the Saints take the lead for good in the opener. Stefane Markovic and Bradley Connochie were hit by CU pitches and then SHU relief pitcher Kyle Kuhr made the lead stand.

Freddy Jehle, Ryne Sanders and Trenton Shindorf had two hits apiece for Siena Heights.

Jehle compiled a double, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base while Shindorf had a double, run and two RBI.

Carson Wlad homered and John Watts doubled for the SHU effort.

Tayler Thelen started on the hill for the Saints, allowing four runs on four hits. Kuhr worked the final four innings, giving up one run on four hits for the relief win.

The Golden Eagles won game two in walk-off fashion in the eighth.

Austin Hauck and Drew Milligan had doubles for the Saints.

Tyler Butlin started on the hill for SHU, Daniel Nye tossed two scoreless innings of relief and Kyle Burkholder finished up. Burkholder suffered the loss.

Hauck's two-run double gave Siena Heights the lead in the first. Milligan put SHU up, 3-1, with an RBI double in the fourth.

Cornerstone tied the contest with two runs in the sixth and then won in the eighth on an RBI single by Davis Martin.
