Baseball Struggles To Stop Indiana Tech Bats

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team suffered 29-5 and 10-0 losses to Indiana Tech in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader on Friday at the SHU Baseball Diamond.

The Warriors (18-22, 12-11) scored in six of seven innings during the opener. Their biggest inning was a seven-run fourth.

Dennis Sharp Jr. batted 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs. Freddy Jehle added a 2-for-4 game with one run.

The Saints (16-22, 11-14) scored their first four runs without the benefit of a run-scoring hit.

Zack Dunlop had an RBI groundout in the first. Travis Stricklin drove in a run on a fielder's choice and Raymond Cleary added an RBI groundout during the fourth. Then, in the fifth, Dunlop smacked a sacrifice fly.

The Saints' only run-scoring hit was an RBI single by Eric Henderson in the seventh.

Tighe Koehring led the Warriors with a 4-for-5 performance. He had a triple, three runs and three RBI. Zach Pfafman and Peyton Newsom had a homer, double and five RBI apiece.

Chase Keathley was the winning pitcher for Indiana Tech.

Tayler Thelen suffered the loss for SHU. Steven Phillips worked two scoreless frames.

In game two, which also went seven innings, Dunlop batted 2-for-4 while Kyle Burkholder was the losing pitcher.

The Warriors took a 2-0 lead in the first and led the rest of the way. Newsom went 3-for-4 with four RBI while Matt Bandor contributed a 3-for-5 game with two runs and one RBI.

Connor McLaughlin was the winning pitcher, tossing five innings of four-hit shutout ball. T.J. Lutz worked the final two scoreless innings.

The Saints and Warriors will meet again on Saturday for a 1 p.m. WHAC doubleheader.
