Baseball Drops Two at Aquinas

WYOMING, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team suffered a pair of losses to Aquinas, 13-8 and 7-5, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Saturday.

Austin Hauck and Joe Williams had 3-for-5 games in the nine-inning, 13-8 opener. Williams had two runs and two RBI while Hauck scored a run for the Saints (9-11, 5-5).

Also for SHU, Dennis Sharp Jr. went 2-for-4 with a run and two doubles. Carson Wlad was 2-for-4 with a run and RBI while Eric Henderson added a 2-for-4 game.

Freddy Jehle scored twice and Zack Dunlop drove in two runs.

Aquinas held a 7-2 lead through two innings before SHU struck for four runs in the third, including two on a single by Williams.

The visiting Saints trimmed their deficit to 7-6, but that's as close as SHU would get. Aquinas outscored Siena Heights, 6-2, the rest of the way.

Tayler Thelen was the losing pitcher for SHU.

In game two, which went seven innings, Aquinas used a five-run third inning to take a commanding lead and held off a late rally from Siena Heights.

Trailing 7-1 in the fifth, the Saints clawed back with four runs before their rally fell short. A two-run single by Sharp highlighted the inning.

SHU's Kyle Burkholder went the distance on the hill, allowing seven runs on 13 hits while striking out three.

Siena Heights and Aquinas will meet again on Sunday.
