The following was printed on Dennis Szczechowski's HOF
plaque:
Drafted by the San Francisco Giants as a pitcher in 1992, Dennis
Szczechowski was an everyday player for the Saints from
1988-92. Szczechowski could play any position on the field,
and he played several during his four-year career at Siena Heights
University. He was a pitcher and valuable utility player in
1989, when the Saints captured their first NAIA District #23
championship and fell in the Area VI title game.
As a junior in ’91, Szczechowski earned All-District
honors as a pitcher and was named the recipient of the Thomas A.
Emmett Award, which is presented annually to the top male and
female junior student-athletes at Siena Heights. He was also
one of only six players in the NAIA in 1991 to be named National
Pitcher-of-the-Week.
Following his senior season with the Saints, Szczechowski became
only the second Siena Heights player to be selected in the major
league baseball draft.
