Women's Golf, Softball Lead Siena Heights' Nine NAIA Scholar-Teams

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Nine Siena Heights Athletics programs were honored as NAIA Scholar-Teams for their efforts in the 2016-17 school year, as announced recently by the governing body. SHU was led by the women's golf team and softball team, boasting a 3.84 and 3.76 grade point average, respectively.

In the NAIA, 1,667 teams were honored as Scholar-Teams as the SHU women's golf team claimed the No. 6 spot overall, with a 3.76 GPA. The Saints ranked third in their respective sport behind WHAC foe Indiana Tech with a 3.90 GPA and Graceland (Iowa) with a 3.86 GPA. A total of 105 women's golf teams earned this award.

Of the 1,667 teams honored, softball ranked 15th overall with a 3.76 GPA. SHU claimed the No. 2 spot of 125 softball teams that were honored, only beaten by William Woods (Mo.) with a 3.77 GPA.

Other Siena Heights teams honored were competitive cheer and dance (3.48), women's soccer (3.45), women's lacrosse (3.44), women's volleyball (3.31), women's basketball (3.21), women's track and field (3.08) and baseball (3.05).

For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade point average includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.
